Facebook character limit and counter

Facebook posts are long enough that the limit rarely matters, but the Page description is 100 characters and comments have a cap too. Count each field against its own number.

Platform limit: 63,206 Unicode code points. Source: Facebook Help Center, read 1 November 2026.

Not verified with the platform

Meta does not publish the post cap in the Graph API reference and no Help Center page stating it was found on the check date.

The platform does not say which unit it counts; this page counts Unicode code points.

bundle.social API limit: 50,000 characters. bundle.social accepts up to 50,000 UTF-16 units of post text for Facebook Pages.

How to use

  1. 01

    Pick the field

Page post is the default. Page description applies the 100-character cap from the Graph API; Comment applies 8,000.
  2. 02

Paste and read the remaining figure

For posts, the "See more" cut usually matters more than the hard cap. The count shows how long the text is.
  3. 03

    Check the bundle.social limit

If you publish through bundle.social, post text is validated at 50,000 characters, well under the figure the Facebook app accepts.
  4. 04

    Copy

Copy the text when the status reads "Within the limit". Line breaks are preserved by Facebook, so no spacer characters are needed.

What does Meta's Graph API document about Facebook text?

Less than you might expect. The Graph API reference sets one text limit for Pages: the about field, shown as Description in Edit Page Info, holds 100 characters. Posts are published to a Page's feed by someone who can perform the CREATE_CONTENT task on that Page; the user feed endpoint does not allow creating posts, so tools such as bundle.social publish to Pages, not personal profiles. When the API reports tagged profiles in a post, it gives their positions in Unicode code points, which is why this page counts code points for Facebook fields.

Limitations

  • Meta does not publish the post cap in the Graph API reference, and no Help Center page stating it was reachable on the check date. The 63,206 figure widely observed in the app is kept but marked not verified.
  • The Page description limit (100 characters) is documented on the Graph API Page object; the "Intro" shown on a Page is a different field with its own, undocumented cap.
  • The comment cap of 8,000 is the value bundle.social applies; Meta does not document it.
  • Facebook truncates long posts in the feed; where that happens depends on the client and is not predicted here.

FAQ

What is the Facebook post character limit?

Facebook does not publish a post limit; 63,206 characters is the commonly cited figure, so this page uses it and marks it not verified, because no Meta page stating it was found on 1 November 2026. bundle.social accepts up to 50,000 UTF-16 units of post text for a Page. The Page description is documented: 100 characters, per the Graph API Page reference.

Why is the Page description only 100 characters?

The Graph API documents the Page "about" field, which maps to the Description setting in Edit Page Info, with a limit of 100 characters. Longer Page copy belongs in the Additional information section.

How long can a Facebook comment be?

bundle.social accepts 8,000 characters for a comment or first comment. Meta does not publish the app's own cap, so that rule is marked not verified.

Does Facebook count emoji as one character?

Meta does not document the unit. The counter uses code points. The UTF-16 figure in "More figures" is what most publishing tools, including bundle.social, use for validation.

Do link previews or tagged Pages count?

No. Only the text in the message field counts; the preview card and attached media are separate.
