Resize images for social media without uploading them

Pick a platform size or type your own, move the crop window, then download as JPEG, PNG or WebP. Your device does all the processing, and the image never leaves it.

How to use

  1. 01

    Choose an image

Drop a JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF file, or pick one with the button. If a photo has an EXIF rotation, the tool turns it the right way up.
  2. 02

    Pick a size

Select a preset for the platform and placement, or switch to Custom and type a width and height. The aspect lock keeps the ratio while you type.
  3. 03

Decide how the image meets the frame

Fill crops to the exact size, and you can drag the crop window or move it with the arrow keys. Fit keeps the whole image and pads it. Stretch distorts the picture, so it only applies when you select it.
  4. 04

    Choose the output

Pick JPEG, PNG or WebP, and set a quality for the lossy formats. If transparent areas have to be filled, you choose the background colour first.
  5. 05

    Compare and download

Check the dimensions and file size before and after, then download the result. The file name includes the new size.

Fill, fit or stretch

Most feeds expect Fill: the picture covers the whole frame and anything outside the window is cut off. Fit keeps every pixel and adds bars in your background colour, or transparent padding for PNG and WebP. Stretch forces the pixels into the new proportions, which makes faces and type look wrong, so the tool only uses it when you choose it.

Why the file size can grow

A JPEG saved again at high quality, or a photo converted to PNG, can end up larger than the original. With the before and after sizes side by side, you can lower the quality, switch to WebP or reduce the dimensions until the file is small enough.

Instagram image sizes and other social media sizes

Each preset in the resizer uses one of these sizes. Sizes marked as common are widely used, but they do not come from the platform's own documentation.

Limitations

  • Output is limited to 4096 px per edge, and input to 50 MB or 40 megapixels, so the tool stays responsive on a phone.
  • The browser does the encoding. Safari and some older browsers cannot write WebP, so only formats the browser confirms are offered.
  • Animated GIFs are flattened to their first frame. HEIC and AVIF output are not available.
  • Presets marked as a common size do not come from platform documentation. Platforms also recompress uploads, so the published file size and quality will differ from your download.
  • The tool does not sharpen or enhance images. A small source scaled up to a large preset will look soft.

FAQ

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Your browser decodes, crops and encodes the image with the Canvas API. The page sends no network request with your file, and reloading it clears everything.

Which Instagram size should I use?

Meta's ads guide recommends 4:5 at 1440 x 1800 px for the feed and 9:16 at 1440 x 2560 px for Stories. The Instagram API accepts feed images from 4:5 to 1.91:1, up to 1440 px wide. A 1080 px square (1:1) is still common and falls inside that range.

Why is WebP missing from the format list?

The tool checks which formats your browser can actually encode and lists only those. Some Safari versions can open WebP but cannot save it. In that case choose JPEG or PNG, or use another browser.

Can I move the crop without a mouse?

Yes. Tab to the crop window and move it with the arrow keys: 1% per press, or 10% with Shift held. You can also type exact percentages in the crop position fields under the fit options.

What happens to transparent areas when I export JPEG?

JPEG has no transparency, so transparent pixels have to be filled. If the image you load has transparent areas, the tool switches the output to PNG. If you then choose JPEG, you pick the fill colour, which is also used for the padding in Fit mode.

Does the tool add a watermark?

No. The download contains only your image, at the size and quality you chose.
