TikTok caption length and character counter
TikTok is one of the few platforms that says how it counts: 2,200 characters in UTF-16 encoding. This counter uses that unit, so emoji cost 2 each here exactly as they do in the caption.

How to use
- 01
Keep the caption field selected
It applies 2,200 UTF-16 units and flags more than 30 mentions. Switch to Comment for the 1,200 limit on comments and replies. - 02
Paste the caption with its hashtags
Hashtags and mentions are counted as text. Captions published through the API also show them as plain text, without links. - 03
Check line breaks
TikTok honours line breaks in the mobile app only when the caption is long enough to be truncated; short captions show on one line. - 04
Copy and schedule
Copy the text when it fits. bundle.social validates the same 2,200 before publishing.
Limitations
- The count is in UTF-16 code units because that is what TikTok documents. Most emoji are 2 units and a family emoji is 11, so emoji-heavy captions fill the limit faster than a visual count suggests.
- The web app ignores line breaks entirely and the mobile app only shows them when the caption is long enough to truncate; this tool does not model that display.
- The 30-mention cap is documented, but TikTok does not state a hashtag cap, so hashtags are counted without a limit.
- Comment length was raised to 1,200 in August 2026; older guidance still says 150.
