9 Free Social Media Management Tools in 2026: Limits and API Access

Nine free social media management tools compared: Buffer, Publer, Metricool, Zoho Social and more, with free plan limits, paid-only features and API access.

The best free social media management tools in 2026 are Buffer (3 channels), Publer (3 accounts), Metricool (one brand, 20 posts a month) and Zoho Social (6 channels for one brand) for multi-network scheduling; Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn and YouTube Studio for native scheduling; and Upload-Post or bundle.social if you need a free API. Hootsuite and Later have no free plan, only 14-day trials.

Every limit below comes from the vendor's own pricing or help page, checked in November 2026. We build bundle.social and list it with its gaps, the same as every other tool.

The 9 best free social media management tools

1. Buffer: the simplest free social media scheduler

Buffer is the easiest free social media scheduler for a freelancer or small business posting to a few networks. Its supported channels include Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, Google Business Profile, Mastodon, YouTube Shorts, Threads and Bluesky.

  • Free plan: 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel and 1 user. Insights keep 30 days of history.
  • Not included: the performance overview, reports, extra users and approval workflows. Approvals come with the Team plan at $10 per channel per month billed yearly.
  • API: yes. The Free plan includes 1 API key with 1,000 requests per channel per month. Access is personal-key only, so it automates your own Buffer account.
  • Upgrade: Essentials costs $5 per channel per month billed yearly ($60 per channel per year) and removes the post limit.

2. Publer: best for three accounts and a calendar

Publer suits a solo marketer with up to three accounts who keeps a backlog of drafts.

  • Free plan: 3 social accounts, 10 scheduled posts per account (30 in total) and 25 saved drafts. A slot frees up when a scheduled post publishes or is deleted.
  • Not included: X accounts, which need a paid plan, and the API.
  • API: no. Publer's API is available only to Business and Enterprise customers in good standing.

3. Metricool: best free plan with analytics

Metricool fits one brand that wants planning and basic analytics in the same place.

  • Free plan: 1 brand, 20 published posts per month and 30 days of analytics. Only published posts count, and the counter resets on the 1st of each month.
  • Not included: LinkedIn and X connections, PDF and PPT reports, and the Canva and Google Drive integrations.
  • API: no. The Metricool API comes with the Advanced plan, $53 per month billed yearly or $67 monthly.
  • Upgrade: Starter costs $20 per month billed yearly or $25 monthly.

4. Zoho Social: best for one brand across six channels

Zoho Social's free plan bundles six fixed channels for one brand, including X and both kinds of LinkedIn account.

  • Free plan: 1 brand and 1 team member with 6 channels: one X profile, one Instagram profile, one Facebook Page, one LinkedIn Company Page, one LinkedIn profile and one Google Business Profile. It includes content scheduling, a publishing calendar and 5 AI credits.
  • Not included: the bulk scheduler, the social inbox and the monitoring dashboard.
  • API: none listed on Zoho Social's pricing page.

5. Meta Business Suite: best free tool for Facebook and Instagram

Meta Business Suite is Meta's own free app for a business that publishes to its Facebook Page and Instagram account.

  • Free plan: create, schedule and manage posts and stories for your Facebook Page and Instagram account, reply to messages and comments, and review insights.
  • Not included: any network outside Meta.
  • API: no. Meta's Graph API is a separate developer product, and apps that publish for other businesses need App Review.

If you already schedule in Meta's tools, our guide on finding and editing scheduled Facebook posts covers the day-to-day steps.

6. LinkedIn native scheduling: best for your own profile or Page

LinkedIn's composer can schedule posts for personal profiles and Pages without any third-party tool.

  • Free plan: profiles can schedule between 10 minutes and 3 months ahead. Page super admins and content admins can schedule between one hour and 3 months ahead.
  • Not included: editing a scheduled post (you can only reschedule or delete it). Pages cannot schedule events, multiple photos, reshares, polls, jobs or service posts.
  • API: no.

The step-by-step version is in how to schedule LinkedIn posts.

7. YouTube Studio: best for scheduling your own uploads

YouTube Studio handles scheduled publishing for your own channel.

  • Free plan: upload a video, choose Schedule, and set the date, time and time zone.
  • Not included: other networks. A Community Guidelines strike keeps a scheduled video private during the penalty period, so it needs rescheduling afterwards.
  • API: no. The YouTube Data API is a separate developer product. Google's scheduling help page lists the exact steps.

8. Upload-Post: best free option for publishing automation

Upload-Post is aimed at developers and no-code builders who want to test an upload workflow.

  • Free plan: 10 uploads per month, 2 profiles (each holds one account per platform) and 1 seat, with the REST API, Python and JavaScript SDKs, scheduling and analytics.
  • Not included: TikTok, white-label and more than 2 profiles.
  • API: yes, on every plan.
  • Upgrade: Basic costs $24 per month ($16 billed yearly) for 5 profiles, unlimited uploads and TikTok.

9. bundle.social: free social media API for product teams

bundle.social is a unified social media API for developers and SaaS teams adding publishing to their own product, or agencies automating it.

  • Free plan: 20 posts per month, 3 teams (each team holds one connected account per platform) and API access.
  • Not included: analytics, sent DMs and automation runs. X posts are billed separately from prepaid credits at $0.015 per post.
  • API: yes, it is the core of the product.
  • Upgrade: Pro costs $100 per month ($90 billed yearly) with 10,000 posts, unlimited teams, analytics, and 200 sent DMs plus 200 automation runs per connected account per month.

Twenty posts a month is enough to prove an integration and too few to run a client calendar. If you work in n8n, Make or Zapier rather than code, the social media automation templates list ready-made workflows that publish posts, upload media and log analytics, each with its requirements.

Prove the integration on 20 free posts a month, then schedule real calendars through the same API.

Queue a whole calendar and let the scheduler publish it, platform by platform.

What about Hootsuite and Later?

Neither has a free plan as of November 2026. Hootsuite offers a 14-day trial, and its Standard plan starts at $99 per month with 10 social accounts. Later also offers a 14-day trial, and its Starter plan costs $18.75 per month billed yearly for 1 social set (8 profiles) with up to 30 scheduled posts per profile. If you are leaving either, our Hootsuite alternative and Later alternative pages compare the options.

Queue limits and monthly allowances both ration posts, but they run out in different ways.

Queue limits vs monthly allowances

Free plans cap usage in two ways. Buffer and Publer limit how many posts can sit in the queue: 10 per channel or account at a time, and a slot opens again once a post publishes. You can publish more than 10 posts a month, but you cannot load more than 10 per channel ahead of time.

Metricool, Upload-Post and bundle.social count per month instead: 20 published posts on Metricool, 10 uploads on Upload-Post and 20 posts on bundle.social, reset each month. You can batch a month's content at once, but the total is fixed. If you batch Instagram posts, our free Instagram feed planner arranges up to 30 images in a profile grid so you can settle the posting order before you queue them; it does not schedule anything itself.

Check how each tool counts accounts too. Publer counts each social account as one, so a Facebook Page and its linked Instagram account use two of your three slots.

Small pots suit seedlings, and a free plan suits an account until it needs more room.

When a free social media scheduler stops fitting

A free plan stops fitting when one of these happens:

  • You add a fourth channel on Buffer or a second brand on Metricool.
  • You need analytics history beyond the 30 days that Buffer's and Metricool's free plans keep.
  • A second person needs access or clients need to approve posts. For an occasional review, a PNG mockup from our social media post preview can go to the client by email, but it has no sign-off step.
  • You need X on Publer or Metricool, or TikTok on Upload-Post.
  • Your customers need to connect their own accounts inside your product, which calls for an API. Our comparison of social media APIs covers that route.

When you switch tools, pause or delete queued posts in the old tool before recreating them in the new one, so nothing publishes twice. Keep your own copy of captions and media, for example in a social media content calendar, so a move does not depend on exporting from the tool. The same goes for key dates: our social media holiday calendar exports public holidays for Poland, the US and England and Wales, plus awareness days, as CSV or ICS files you keep. For quick jobs like checking caption length or resizing images, our free tools need no account.

If you are building publishing into a product rather than running a queue by hand, see the paid limits on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free social media management tool?

For most small businesses, Buffer: 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel and an API key on the free plan. Metricool is better if you want analytics for one brand, and Zoho Social if you need LinkedIn and X for free. For only Facebook and Instagram, Meta Business Suite is free and comes from Meta itself.

Is there a completely free social media scheduler?

Yes. Buffer, Publer, Metricool and Zoho Social all have free plans with no end date, and Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn and YouTube Studio schedule natively at no cost. The limits differ: Buffer and Publer cap queued posts at 10 per channel or account, while Metricool caps published posts at 20 a month.

Which free social media tools include an API?

Buffer's free plan includes 1 API key with 1,000 requests per channel per month for your own account. Upload-Post's free plan includes its API with 10 uploads a month. bundle.social's free plan includes API access with 20 posts a month and 3 teams. Publer and Metricool keep their APIs on paid plans.

Does Hootsuite have a free plan?

No. As of November 2026, Hootsuite offers a 14-day free trial, and its Standard plan starts at $99 per month with 10 social accounts. Later is also trial-only, with a 14-day trial. For a free plan with no end date, look at Buffer, Publer, Metricool or Zoho Social.

Can I manage multiple Instagram accounts for free?

Yes. The Instagram app lets you switch between up to five accounts, and Meta Business Suite schedules for free. Buffer's free plan covers 3 channels, and bundle.social's free plan connects one Instagram account in each of its 3 teams. Our guide to managing multiple Instagram accounts compares the options.
