Text styles

  • Italic

Sans-serif italic. No italic digits exist, so numbers stay as typed.

𝘛𝘺𝘱𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦

  • Italic serif

Serif italic. The lowercase h is the Planck constant symbol, which is why it is listed explicitly.

𝑇𝑦𝑝𝑒 𝑜𝑟 𝑝𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑡𝑒𝑥𝑡 ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒

  • Bold italic

Sans-serif bold italic. Digits stay as typed.

𝙏𝙮𝙥𝙚 𝙤𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙩𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚

  • Bold italic serif

Serif bold italic. Digits stay as typed.

𝑻𝒚𝒑𝒆 𝒐𝒓 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒕𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆

  • Bold

Sans-serif bold, the most common pick for LinkedIn and Instagram.

𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲

  • Sans

Regular sans-serif symbols; looks like plain text in a slightly different face.

𝖳𝗒𝗉𝖾 𝗈𝗋 𝗉𝖺𝗌𝗍𝖾 𝗒𝗈𝗎𝗋 𝗍𝖾𝗑𝗍 𝗁𝖾𝗋𝖾

  • Bold serif

Serif bold with its own digits.

𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞

  • Monospace

Typewriter look with its own digits; handy for code-like snippets.

𝚃𝚢𝚙𝚎 𝚘𝚛 𝚙𝚊𝚜𝚝𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚝𝚎𝚡𝚝 𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎

  • Script

Calligraphic letters. Eleven of them come from the Letterlike Symbols block.

𝒯𝓎𝓅ℯ ℴ𝓇 𝓅𝒶𝓈𝓉ℯ 𝓎ℴ𝓊𝓇 𝓉ℯ𝓍𝓉 𝒽ℯ𝓇ℯ

  • Bold script

Heavier calligraphic letters, a complete set.

𝓣𝔂𝓹𝓮 𝓸𝓻 𝓹𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓽𝓮𝔁𝓽 𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮

  • Double-struck

    Outlined letters and digits; C, H, N, P, Q, R and Z are the number-set symbols.

𝕋𝕪𝕡𝕖 𝕠𝕣 𝕡𝕒𝕤𝕥𝕖 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕥𝕖𝕩𝕥 𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖

  • Fraktur

Blackletter. C, H, I, R and Z come from the Letterlike Symbols block.

𝔗𝔶𝔭𝔢 𝔬𝔯 𝔭𝔞𝔰𝔱𝔢 𝔶𝔬𝔲𝔯 𝔱𝔢𝔵𝔱 𝔥𝔢𝔯𝔢

  • Bold fraktur

    Heavier blackletter, a complete set.

𝕿𝖞𝖕𝖊 𝖔𝖗 𝖕𝖆𝖘𝖙𝖊 𝖞𝖔𝖚𝖗 𝖙𝖊𝖝𝖙 𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖊

  • Strikethrough

Adds a combining long stroke (U+0336) after each character except spaces; works on any letter, not only A to Z.

    T̶y̶p̶e̶ o̶r̶ p̶a̶s̶t̶e̶ y̶o̶u̶r̶ t̶e̶x̶t̶ h̶e̶r̶e̶

  • Underline

Adds a combining low line (U+0332) after each character except spaces.

    T̲y̲p̲e̲ o̲r̲ p̲a̲s̲t̲e̲ y̲o̲u̲r̲ t̲e̲x̲t̲ h̲e̲r̲e̲

These are Unicode symbols, not a font or native formatting. Screen readers may read them letter by letter or skip them, and search does not match them to the plain words. Use them for a short highlight, not for whole posts.

How to use

  1. 01

    Type or paste your text

The four italic styles at the top update as you type. Spaces, line breaks and emoji stay where you put them.
  2. 02

    Pick an italic

Sans-serif italic looks closest to the fonts most apps use. Serif italic stands out more and reads like a quote. The bold versions work for a short emphasised phrase.
  3. 03

    Copy and paste

Press the copy button next to the style and paste it into the post, caption, bio or comment.
  4. 04

    Check it on a phone

Open the draft on a phone before publishing. A letter shown as a box means the device has no glyph for that character.

How italic text works where there is no italic button

LinkedIn feed posts, Instagram captions and bios accept plain text only. The tool swaps each letter for its counterpart from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block of Unicode. To the platform these are ordinary characters, so they survive the paste, and to the reader they look slanted.

Why the serif italic h is a different character

Most mathematical italic letters sit next to each other in one Unicode block, but the italic lowercase h was encoded earlier as the Planck constant symbol ℎ (U+210E), so the block leaves a gap where it would be. The tool maps every letter through an explicit table, which is why the h in the serif italic style comes out right.

Limitations

  • Unicode has no italic digits, so numbers stay upright in every italic style.
  • Only A to Z and a to z change. Accented letters such as é, ł or ñ, other scripts and emoji stay as typed.
  • Screen readers may spell the letters out one by one or skip them, and platform search does not match italic letters to the plain word.
  • Italic text made this way cannot be switched back with the platform's own formatting buttons.

FAQ

Does italic text work in an Instagram bio?

Yes. The bio field accepts any Unicode text. Styled letters count toward the bio limit like any other character, and the Instagram character counter shows how long the bio is.

Why do the numbers not turn italic?

Unicode defines bold, double-struck, sans-serif and monospace digits but no italic ones. Numbers stay as typed in the italic styles.

How is this different from italics in Word or Google Docs?

A word processor stores normal letters with an italic flag. This tool replaces the letters with separate slanted characters, which is why the style survives in a plain text field and also why search does not recognise the word.

Can I turn the italic text back into normal text?

Yes. The LinkedIn text formatter on this site has a plain text action that converts every style this tool produces back to normal letters.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing you type leaves the page.
