LinkedIn text formatter for LinkedIn bold text, italics and lists

This LinkedIn text formatter writes LinkedIn bold text, italics and bullet lists: select a phrase and click Bold, or select lines and click Bullets. The result is plain text with Unicode styles, ready to paste into the LinkedIn composer, which has no formatting buttons of its own.

The fold preview appears once you write something.

LinkedIn does not publish where the fold falls; it depends on screen width, font size and line breaks. This marker is an estimate for a phone, not what LinkedIn will do.

How to use

  1. 01

    Write or paste the post

The editor is a normal text box, and you can undo every edit.
  2. 02

Select text and pick a style

Bold, Italic, Strikethrough and Underline are one click away; the "More styles" select holds serif, script, monospace and the rest. Styles replace each other instead of stacking.
  3. 03

    Turn lines into a list

Place the caret on a line or select several, then click Bullets or Numbered. Clicking again on a finished list removes the markers.
  4. 04

Check the fold and the count

The phone preview shows roughly what appears before "see more". The counter tracks the 3,000-character post limit.
  5. 05

Copy all and paste into LinkedIn

Use Copy all. If you later want the plain words back, select them and click Plain text; it reverses every style this tool produces.

How does the formatter work without HTML?

LinkedIn strips markup from posts. The formatter swaps each selected ASCII letter for its Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols counterpart using an explicit table, the same one the bold text generator uses. Lists are built from a bullet character and a space. Since the result is plain text, the editor keeps your caret and selection after each action, and undo steps back through formatting and typing.

How do you make LinkedIn bold text?

Write or paste the post above, select the words you want in bold and click Bold (or press Ctrl or Cmd and B). The selection turns into bold Unicode letters while the rest stays plain. Click Copy all and paste into the LinkedIn post box; the bold survives because it is made of characters, not formatting. Keep it to a hook line or a few key words: screen readers and LinkedIn search treat bold Unicode letters as different symbols from the plain words.

Limitations

  • Styled text is made of Unicode symbols, not LinkedIn formatting. Screen readers may read it letter by letter, LinkedIn search does not match it to the plain words, and it cannot be edited with any native bold control.
  • Only A to Z, a to z and digits change. Accented letters, Polish characters and emoji stay as typed inside a styled selection.
  • The "see more" preview is an estimate: LinkedIn does not publish the cut and it moves with screen width, font size and line breaks.
  • The 3,000 limit is counted in code points, as LinkedIn's API documents a character count without a unit; a styled letter is one code point but two UTF-16 units.
  • Bullets are the Unicode bullet character (U+2022) followed by a space, numbered items are plain "1. "; LinkedIn has no real list markup to target.

FAQ

Why can't I bold text directly in LinkedIn?

The post composer accepts plain text only. Articles and newsletters have a rich editor; feed posts do not, so people paste Unicode bold instead.

Will the bold text hurt my reach or accessibility?

It can. Screen readers may spell out the symbols or skip them, and LinkedIn search does not match styled words to plain ones. Use styling for a short hook or a few headings and keep the body plain.

How do I remove the formatting later?

Select the styled text and click Plain text. It maps every styled letter back to ASCII and strips strikethrough and underline marks. Undo also steps back through each action.

What does the phone preview show?

An estimate of the part of the post visible before "see more" on a phone: about the first three lines or 210 characters, cut at a word boundary. LinkedIn does not publish the exact rule.

Can I use keyboard shortcuts?

Yes. With the text box focused, Ctrl or Cmd plus B applies bold, plus I italic, plus Z undo and Shift+Z (or Y) redo.

Does the counter match what LinkedIn enforces?

The 3,000 figure comes from LinkedIn's UGC Post API documentation. LinkedIn does not state the unit; the counter uses code points and shows the UTF-16 figure next to it because styled letters double there.
