How to use

  1. 01

    Add images

Drop files or pick them. Compression starts right away with the current settings (JPEG at 80% unless you change them), including for files you add while a batch is running, and a progress bar with a Cancel button shows how far it has got.
  2. 02

    Adjust the output

Open Settings (always visible on wide screens) to choose JPEG, PNG or WebP. Lossy formats get a quality slider, and JPEG asks which colour should replace transparency. To scale large photos down as well, enter a longest edge. After a change the files go back in the queue until you press Compress again.
  3. 03

    Read each row

Each row lists the size before and after, the percentage change, the dimensions and the format the browser actually produced. If a file did not get smaller, its row keeps the original selected.
  4. 04

    Download

Save files one at a time, or use Download all as ZIP. The browser builds the archive as well.

Which format to pick

For photos going to social platforms, JPEG is the safe default, since the platforms re-encode everything to JPEG-like formats anyway. WebP is usually 20 to 30 percent smaller than JPEG at similar quality and keeps transparency, so it suits your own website. PNG is lossless. It only gets smaller when you also reduce the dimensions, and a photo saved as PNG is usually larger than the original JPEG.

Why a result can be larger

A JPEG already saved at quality 70 does not shrink when you save it again at 85, and any photo converted to PNG grows. The tool marks those rows in red and keeps the original selected for download. You can still pick the new version if you want the format change.

Limitations

  • The browser's own encoders do the work. They are fast, but at the same quality their files are larger than those from dedicated tools like MozJPEG or cwebp, and they have no progressive JPEG or PNG palette options.
  • WebP output depends on the browser. Safari and some older browsers cannot write it, so the option is hidden there.
  • The tool cannot produce HEIC, HEIF or AVIF. HEIC input works only in browsers that decode it (Safari), and other browsers report it as unsupported.
  • Animated GIFs and animated WebP files keep only their first frame.
  • EXIF, GPS data and colour profiles are dropped. The orientation is applied to the pixels first, so photos stay upright.
  • JPEG has no transparency, so transparent areas of PNG, WebP or GIF sources are filled with the background colour you pick (white by default). To keep transparency, choose PNG or WebP.
  • Limits: 30 images per batch, 50 MB and 40 megapixels per image. Results are capped at 8192 px on the longest edge and 16.7 megapixels, the largest canvas iOS Safari accepts. A ZIP holds up to 512 MB.

FAQ

Are my images uploaded?

No. Your browser decodes and re-encodes the files with the Canvas API, and nothing is sent to a server or stored. Closing the tab removes everything.

What quality should I use?

For photos, 70 to 85 keeps compression artefacts invisible at normal viewing sizes. Screenshots with text look better at 85 to 90 in JPEG, or as PNG or WebP, which keep edges crisp.

Why does the row say PNG when I asked for WebP?

Browsers fall back to PNG when they cannot encode the requested format. The row shows the type of the file the browser actually produced, which is the file you download.

Does the longest edge setting upscale small images?

No. Images smaller than the value keep their size. Only larger ones are scaled down.

Can I compress many images at once?

Yes, up to 30 per batch. The tool processes them one after another so the page stays usable, and Cancel stops the batch before the next file starts.

Why does the tool remove EXIF data?

Redrawing the pixels on a canvas leaves the metadata behind, so GPS coordinates and camera details are not in the downloaded file. For images you post publicly, that is usually what you want.
